Why Southeast Asia Offers Reasons for Optimism

With the global economy facing a prolonged period of weak growth and high inflation, Southeast Asia is a rare reason for optimism, with strong fundamentals, accelerating growth and a bright future. The region is poised for growth. The Asian Development Bank's September outlook raised its forecast for the region's GDP growth to 5.1 percent from 4.9 percent amid a raft of global ratings downgrades. HSBC Global Research expects Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia and Vietnam to grow between 3.2 percent and 7.6 percent this year, despite economic uncertainty and volatility.
